The Best Jobs You’ve Never Heard Of (And How to Get One)

As a kid, when an adult asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up, you probably said something like a “teacher,” “doctor” or “firefighter.” When you’re that age, the options for jobs seem limited to a few titles. Now that you’re all grown up, you know that’s not true at all.

The job market is filled with a wide variety of options, including job titles that you didn’t realize existed. Here are some examples of jobs that you’ve never heard of and that you might want to apply for.

Ethical Hacker

An ethical hacker (sometimes called a penetration tester) is a unique cybersecurity career. Essentially, an ethical hacker will practice legally hacking into a company’s cybersecurity system to find any vulnerabilities that could be exploited by bad actors in the future.

Cybersecurity is a job field that’s going to increase in popularity. As more companies become reliant on online systems, there will be a greater need to keep those systems secure from cybercrime. Statistics show that cybercrime rates are expected to surge worldwide in the next few years. So, businesses across the globe will be looking for proficient employees who can help them combat that growing threat.

Data Annotator

A data annotator labels and categorizes data, whether that is text, audio or images. Labeling this data is essential for training AI systems to make sure they are more accurate and effective in their output.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve noticed that the global AI market is growing at an incredible pace. Companies that are creating and implementing AI models will want to have data annotators in their ranks.

Actuary

Actuaries use statistical analysis to assess risk. This is essential for the insurance industry, which needs to assess risk in order to determine the cost of plan premiums and even to accept plan applicants. Investment firms, banks and other companies in finance will need employees to fulfill this important role.

Logistician

A logistician (sometimes called a logistics analyst) manages the flow of goods throughout the supply chain, up until the goods reach the customer. So, they will oversee the ordering of essential products from the supplier, the shipping and transporting of those products, the warehousing of inventory, the delivery of products to vendors and much more. It’s a logistician’s job to make sure all of these steps go smoothly.

How Do You Get One of These Jobs?

If you already have the skills needed to complete these jobs, the next thing you should do is register with a professional recruitment agency. A professional recruitment agency is meant to find top candidates for companies that are looking to fill specialized roles, including logisticians, actuaries, data annotators and ethical hackers.

The right recruiters won’t just get your resume on the desk of an employer. They will conduct interviews before you even meet the employer. They can offer useful tips to succeed in your second interview and make a good impression. And if you happen to get the job, that recruiter will check in periodically during the onboarding process to make sure that you’re doing well. They are more than a job seeker for you – they are your guide and advocate.

Could one of these titles be your next job? If you have the skills and the right recruiter behind your back, then the answer to that question will be a resounding “yes.”
